Context

Before TierTrace, sub-tier questions were answered by email: a buyer asked a tier-1 supplier who their supplier was, waited, and escalated. Time-to-awareness for a tier-3 disruption ran to roughly two weeks, and by then allocation decisions had already been made elsewhere.

1 · The signal

A lead-time shift was reported on a semiconductor package family used across several electronic control assemblies. On its own, that is industry noise. The question was narrower: does this family sit anywhere under our tier-1 base, and if so, under which materials?

2 · Tracing the sub-tier path

TierTrace resolved the declared and inferred path from the tier-3 wafer source through the packaging tier and into two tier-1 assembly suppliers. Each hop carried a source link and a confidence label, so the team could see which relationships were declared by the supplier and which were inferred from documentation and public records.

3 · Linking exposure to materials

The affected path was linked to specific materials and SKUs, then to the sites consuming them. That turned a market headline into a bounded list: affected materials, affected sites, and the coverage window implied by current inventory.

4 · Human review

TierTrace prepared recommended actions with rationale and impact context. It did not place orders, reroute shipments, or change supplier records. Procurement reviewed each recommendation, approved two, rejected one, and logged the rejection with a reason code.

What changed

The measurable change the customer reports is time-to-awareness for tier-3 disruptions: from roughly two weeks of manual escalation to under four hours from signal ingestion to a reviewed exposure list. The customer attributes the sourcing decisions themselves to their own team.
